Meet the Fellows: Kristin Hughes Srour
We’re excited to welcome Kristin to MDLF! Kristin is the Senior Director of Global Health Programs at Special Olympics International and lives in Indianapolis.
About Kristin:
I’m a seeker of social justice and inclusion, a connector, and creative. I’m currently Senior Director of Global Health Programs at Special Olympics International, where we are working to ensure equitable access to health care, resources, and services for people with intellectual disabilities. My career has taken me to many corners of the globe advancing public health and international development initiatives. I’m excited to bring some of these international learnings to the state of Indiana. I’m a mom to two amazing boys and wife to George, the Chief Dreamer of Building Tomorrow (www.buildingtomorrow.org). I love a good cup of coffee, farmers’ markets, exercising, cooking, and the feeling of getting on a plane to the next adventure!
What's your vision for Indiana? How does this relate to your decision to join the program?
Indiana became my home about six years ago. I had attended the University of Notre Dame for my MBA from 2009-2011, but had no other ties to Indiana and never expected to return after graduating. But then life happened! Since then, I’ve fallen in love with the city of Indianapolis. It is a place full of community, entrepreneurship, proud local investment, creativity, and good people. Hoosier hospitality is a real thing! My vision for the state of Indiana is that we become a hub for entrepreneurs, social change-makers and innovation. My hope through the MDLF program that I can help foster and harness some of the assets that already exist in the state to help make this possible.
What's your favorite quote?
"Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world."
"Ubuntu has to do with the very essence of what it means to be human, to know that you are bound up with others in the bundle of life. In our fragile and crowded world, we can survive only together.” -Desmond Tutu
