2024 Driving Change Award Winner | Dan Kozlowski

I am honored to receive the Mitch Daniels Leadership Foundation's Driving Change Award, a recognition that holds deep significance for me. As a fellow of Class VI of MDLF, the experience has been transformative, providing me with the platform to bring meaningful change to our education community in Northwest Indiana.

My capstone project, titled Fostering Educational Excellence, focused on my work at Big Shoulders Fund, specifically the landmark $150 million investment by the Dean & Barbara White Family Foundation. This investment is pivotal in leveling up our efforts in Northwest Indiana's Catholic schools. Our goal has been to enhance educational opportunities, especially for those in communities that have very few quality education options, ensure long-term sustainability, and foster an environment where every child can thrive academically and personally. The support from the Dean & Barbara White Family Foundation has been a game-changer, allowing us to implement innovative programs, strengthen school leadership, and ensure that these schools remain vibrant centers of learning.

Winning this award is a testament to the collaborative efforts of everyone involved—our dedicated team at Big Shoulders Fund, our generous partners at the Dean & Barbara White Family Foundation, our partners in mission at the Catholic Diocese of Gary, and the resilient communities we serve, with specific emphasis on our principal leaders and their staff. It’s a humbling recognition of the impact that collective effort and visionary support can achieve.

Being a part of MDLF has enriched my professional journey in immeasurable ways. The fellowship program challenged me to think bigger, push boundaries, and truly drive change. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow alongside such talented and passionate leaders of our great state!

This award is not just a personal milestone but a reminder of the work we still have ahead. I am committed to continuing our mission to make a lasting difference in the lives of students and families in Northwest Indiana.
