Meet the Fellows: Kevin Hunter
We’re excited to welcome Kevin to MDLF! Kevin is a captain in the Fort Wayne Police Department.
About Kevin:
My name is Kevin Hunter and I’m a thirty year veteran of the Fort Wayne Police Department, with the last eight years of my career commanding the Vice & Narcotics Division. Over the last few years our state has witnessed the drug crisis devastate our communities. I’ve come to learn that addiction is a disease, not a moral failure and strongly believe that Public Safety cannot arrest our way out of this issue. I’ve worked closely with numerous health departments around the state and I’m passionate about the idea that Public Safety and Public Health should be working hand-in-hand to solve this drug crisis.
Personally, I’m a big family man. I’m a husband, father, step-father, and dog-dad to my mini-golden doodle. I love to cook and have family and friends over for dinner. I enjoy Bourbon, and have had fun visiting distilleries in Kentucky to further my knowledge. I’m also a former crisis negotiator, and my work in this field has created great opportunities for me to travel internationally. I’ve taught negotiations for the US State Department and traveled to numerous places around the world helping other countries police learn the art of negotiations.
What's your vision for Indiana? How does this relate to your decision to join the program?
My vision for Indiana is to bring Public Safety and Public Health to work together on a regular basis. Public Safety and Public Health have similar missions, yet Public Safety typically does not collaborate with Public Health.
